Canada Student Visa (Study Permit) Requirements

To apply for a Canadian Student Visa, applicants must possess a valid passport that covers the entire duration of their intended stay in Canada. A Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) is mandatory, confirming the name of the program, duration of study, tuition details, and commencement date. Applicants are required to complete their application online through the IRCC Portal or a GCKey account and ensure that all supporting documents are properly uploaded.

Applicants must provide evidence of financial capacity to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and return travel costs during their study period in Canada. Acceptable documents may include recent bank statements, a solvency certificate, proof of educational loan approval, and a letter of financial support from sponsors.

Academic documents such as transcripts, certificates, mark sheets, and English proficiency test results (IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE) must be included. Under the Student Direct Stream (SDS), students are required to provide proof of tuition payment for the first year and a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) as part of their application. A Statement of Purpose (SOP) should also be submitted, clearly explaining the reasons for choosing Canada as a study destination, the selected institution, future career plans, and a commitment to return home after completing studies.

Applicants are required to undergo a medical examination by a panel physician approved by IRCC and include the medical receipt with their submission. Additional documents such as a national identity card, birth certificate, and police clearance certificate, may also be requested. The processing time for a study permit varies depending on the application category and country of residence.

Canada Visitor Visa (Tourist Visa) Requirements

Applicants wishing to visit Canada for tourism, family visits, or short-term business activities must have a valid passport with at least six months’ validity beyond the intended date of travel. The application must be completed online through the IRCC Portal, and all necessary forms and documents should be uploaded in the required digital format.

A recent passport-size photograph, taken against a white background, must be submitted in accordance with Canadian visa photo specifications. Applicants are required to explain the purpose of their travel and provide supporting documents such as a travel itinerary, flight and accommodation details, or an invitation letter from family or friends residing in Canada.

Evidence of financial stability and strong ties to the applicant’s home country must be provided to assure immigration officers of their intent to return after the visit. This may include employment verification, property ownership documents, family information, or proof of ongoing commitments in their home country.

In certain cases, applicants may be asked to complete a medical examination by an approved panel physician. If the visit is based on an invitation, the inviter in Canada should provide a formal invitation letter including their full name, contact details, immigration status, and the purpose and duration of the visit.

For minors under the age of 18, a birth certificate and a consent letter from parents or legal guardians are required if they are travelling alone or with only one parent. The processing time for a Canada Visitor Visa may vary based on the applicant’s location and the time of year. Applicants are advised to submit their applications well in advance of their planned travel date.
