Hungary Student Visa (Residence Permit for Studies) Requirements

Applicants seeking to study in Hungary must apply for a Residence Permit for the Purpose of Studies before entering the country. A valid passport, with sufficient validity for the entire study period, is required. The applicant must also obtain an official Letter of Admission from a recognized Hungarian university or higher education institution, clearly stating the details of the course, duration, and confirmation of enrolment.

The application must be completed online or through the nearest Hungarian Embassy or Consulate, with all required documents submitted in the prescribed format. Applicants should provide their academic certificates, transcripts, and proof of English or Hungarian language proficiency, depending on the medium of instruction. A Statement of Purpose (SOP) should also be included, explaining the reasons for choosing Hungary, educational goals, and post-study intentions.

Applicants must show proof of financial capacity to support living and educational expenses throughout their stay in Hungary. A valid health insurance policy covering the duration of the study program is also required. In addition, proof of accommodation in Hungary, such as a university dormitory confirmation or private housing agreement, must be submitted.

Depending on individual circumstances, the authorities may request a medical examination report, a police clearance certificate, or additional supporting documents. The residence permit is typically issued for the duration of the study program and can be extended within Hungary before its expiration. To avoid delays, students are advised to apply well in advance of the academic term start date.
