Malta Student Visa (Residence Permit for Studies) Requirements

Applicants wishing to study in Malta must obtain a Residence Permit for Studies before entering the country. A valid passport covering the full duration of the intended stay is required. Applicants must hold an official Letter of Acceptance from a recognized Maltese educational institution, indicating the program name, duration, and confirmation of enrolment.

The application is submitted online or through the Maltese Embassy or Consulate in the applicant’s home country. Required documents include academic transcripts, certificates, and proof of English language proficiency (e.g., IELTS/PTE/TOEFL) if the program is taught in English. A Statement of Purpose (SOP) is recommended, outlining the applicant’s educational goals, reasons for choosing Malta, and post-study intentions.

Applicants must provide proof of adequate health insurance covering their entire stay in Malta. Accommodation details, such as a university dormitory confirmation or private rental agreement, should also be included. Depending on individual circumstances, applicants may be required to submit a police clearance certificate or medical report. The residence permit is typically issued for the duration of the study program, and applications should be submitted well in advance to avoid delays.
