Schengen Visa (Tourist / Visitor) Requirements

To apply for a Schengen Visitor or Tourist Visa, applicants must hold a valid passport that remains valid for at least six months beyond the intended date of departure from the Schengen Area. The passport must contain a minimum of two blank pages and should have been issued within the last ten years. Applicants are required to complete the visa application form, available online or at the embassy or consulate of the country where the main purpose of travel lies.

A recent passport-size photograph, taken on a plain light background, must be submitted in accordance with Schengen photo specifications. Applicants must also include a cover letter clearly stating the purpose of the visit, duration of stay, and intended travel itinerary within the Schengen Zone. Confirmed flight reservations, accommodation details, or an invitation letter from family or friends residing in a Schengen country are required as part of the application.

Proof of employment or business registration, a no-objection certificate from the employer, and supporting financial documents such as recent bank statements are necessary to demonstrate financial stability and intent to return home after the visit. Additionally, applicants must provide evidence of strong personal and professional ties to their home country, such as family relationships, ongoing employment, or property ownership.

Travel health insurance covering the duration of the stay within the Schengen Area is mandatory. Depending on the applicant’s nationality or travel history, a police clearance certificate or medical examination may also be required. The application should be submitted at the embassy or visa center of the country where the applicant will spend the majority of their stay, or, if visiting multiple countries equally, at the embassy of the first point of entry.

Processing times may vary depending on the country and season. Applicants are encouraged to apply well in advance of their intended travel date.
